Country: China (Hong Kong)
Year: 2005
Genres: Art, Drama, Love, Sci-fi

Art [4****]

Beautifully crafted all around. Immersive and engaging, visually and aurally speaking. Dialogue and time are presented ambiguously and intriguingly.

Depth [5*****]

Besides from the lack of errors on any part, the film's deep meaning requires multiple viewing and is very intelligent and complex. There is something about what this film says that I like but can't quite grasp, which is deep in itself. Open to a lot of interpretation in the best way possible. Interesting and persuasive.

Characters [4****]

Characters drive many motives and themes. They had to be well developed in unusual ways for it the story to work, and this is also well completed. Acting is very good, though not necessarily killer. Still, most parts are well praised.

Overall [4****]

Actually feeling a bit dry at the start, this movie is much like a book. You need to give it some time, not judge it by the title, and do a lot of thinking. BTW, everyone is saying it's pronounced two-oh-four-six. To attempt to explain what the number means is well beyond the scope of my ability right now, because it is very deep. Going into it, I thought the movie was sci-fi based in year 2046. You might be let down to find out that's not really true. Psychologically, this is a very refreshing movie and this is what sends it over-the-top. Reading a few more things about what it all means after watching it yields even more things to praise about the thought that has gone into this film.
