Riding Alone For Thousdands Of Miles

Country: China, Japan
Year: 2005
Genres: Drama, Life, Communication

Story [4****]

A very good story with plenty of interesting twists.

Translation [3***]

This was kind of fun to watch. Coming into it, I expected it to be a Chinese movie. Chinese themes and language. But really, it was kind of a mix. The main characters are mostly Japanese and speak Japanese, with a Chinese girl that translates a lot of it to Chinese. Interesting in how this plays out, and what it means in the story.

Drama [4****]

Though it took a while to deliver... it is a really moving film. There is a deep message, though it's probably not all too easy to understand on the first time through. Because this is generally what a drama movie goes for, it doesn't realy go beyond what I look for.

Overall [4****]

A good 4****. I was not as deeply moved as with greater (and more beloved) films that i've seen, but moved nonetheless. Worth seeing once, even twice. I bet a Japanese person would get more out of this than Chinese, actually. This is a really interesting twist from Zhang Yimou.
